OCI-Sarawak Closed Junior Pickleball Tournament 2026 at Pikabol

RM12,100, Eight Categories, One Sarawak Court: Kuching's Junior Open

Andrew Lee

Sarawak does not get the pickleball coverage Peninsular Malaysia does. It is not because there is nothing happening there.

Pikabol in Kuching is hosting the OCI-Sarawak Closed Junior Pickleball Tournament 2026 on 26 Sep 2026, bringing together junior players across eight categories in what is becoming one of the state's more established indoor pickleball venues.

With a total prize pool of RM12,100, the tournament splits the field by age and gender across Singles and Doubles at both Under 18 and Under 15 levels. Registration closes 16 Sep 2026, and players can enter up to two categories each.

A Real Venue, Not a One-Off Court

Pikabol is not a makeshift setup for one tournament. It is a 16-court indoor facility billed as Asia's largest indoor pickleball arena, and it already hosted the MATTA Pickleball Grand Slam in 2025. That matters here. A junior tournament run out of a facility with that kind of track record is a different proposition than one squeezed into a borrowed hall.

The tournament is organised with the Kuching Pickleball Association, which keeps this rooted in the state's own pickleball infrastructure rather than an outside organiser parachuting in for one weekend.

Part of a Bigger Sarawak Calendar

This is not an isolated event either. The same venue has been building out a real tournament calendar this year, including the Kuching Invitational Pickleball Tournament and its own “Road to BPIT2026” lead-up series. Taken together, that is a genuine regional scene developing its own competitive rhythm, not a single tournament trying to generate attention on its own.

Why This Is Worth the Extra Attention

Junior tournaments do not usually carry prize money at this level, and East Malaysia rarely gets the same tournament-calendar visibility Kuala Lumpur, Penang, or Johor do. A confirmed RM12,100 prize pool, eight real categories, and a facility with genuine credentials behind it is worth covering on its own merits, not as a footnote to what is happening in Peninsular Malaysia.

Registration is open now through the tournament's own form, closing 16 Sep 2026.
