Jimmy Liong & Shi Sheng Upset the No. 5 Seed in Ho Chi Minh PPA

Franklin's Jimmy Liong had two results to celebrate on Day 1 of the PPA Asia 500 MB Ho Chi Minh City Open.

In Pro Men's Singles, he advanced to the Round of 16 with a straight-games win over Cameron Luhring, 11-1, 11-3.

In Pro Men's Doubles, he and partner Shi Sheng also advanced to the Round of 16, beating Park S.Y and S. Uzair 11-5, 7-11, 11-7.

The doubles pair backed it up immediately with a bigger result, an Upset Alert win over the tournament's No. 5 seed, Luc Pham and G. Goldin, 4-11, 11-4, 11-6.

It isn't the first time Jimmy has gotten the better of a Goldin this year.

Back in early July, he beat Grayson Goldin in a Round of 16 singles match, and the two have now crossed paths again, this time with Jimmy on the winning side of a doubles upset.

The pair also isn't new to playing together under pressure.

The week before Ho Chi Minh, Jimmy and Shi Sheng competed together at the PPA Tour Asia Singapore Open, giving them a real run of matches together heading into this event.

A singles Round of 16 run, a doubles Round of 16 run, and a ranked-seed upset, all in one day, is exactly the kind of form Franklin will want from its Malaysian pair as the MB Ho Chi Minh City Open continues.
