Same questions, very different ages

The panel's starting point is how young some of these bodies are. Vietnam's federation is three months old. Japan unified in April. USA Pickleball has been working at this since 1984.

The questions are the same at every stage: who sanctions tournaments, how rankings work, and who picks the national team. The courts filled up first, and the rules are still catching up.

Where JOOLA's CEO says the sport still splits

Richard Lee, President and CEO of JOOLA, gave the summit's opening address, "Elevating Pickleball Together". Speaking at the summit, he named three places the sport still divides: who sets the rules, who speaks for it in the Olympic movement, and how a paddle is tested.

His framing: "We agree on the destination. So what's stopping us?"

He was explicit that this is not a hunt for someone to blame. "It's not about assigning blame and looking at the past," Lee said, and added: "Nobody here is acting in bad faith."

His warning was about delay. "When every organization grabs for its own piece, the whole sport waits."

Our read

Two facts from this summit sit side by side. The panel is built around federations that are months, years and decades old, all asking who sanctions events, how rankings work and who picks the national team. Lee's three open splits (rules, Olympic representation, paddle testing) are the same kind of question, only asked of the whole sport rather than one country.

That is our reading, not a stated position of the summit: the questions Lee raised are not limited to young federations.
