August 2026 Tournament Recap: RM484,000+ in Malaysia, Plus a $1.1M Hong Kong Major

Andrew Lee

Malaysia's own tracked tournament calendar carried RM484,000+ in confirmed prize money across 20 distinct events in August, and that is a floor, not a ceiling: five more listed tournaments never stated a prize figure at all, including OCBC PickleSprout 2026 and WPC Malaysia 2026's own multi-day series.

Five more listed events, including OCBC PickleSprout 2026 (Singapore's PickleGO series, opening weekend 29 Aug), WPC Malaysia 2026, WPC Hat Yai 2026, and the MB Ho Chi Minh City Open, ran without a publicly stated total, so the real regional figure for August is higher than what's above.

Beyond Malaysia's Own Calendar

The month's single biggest story wasn't on that list at all. The 2026 Heineken Pickleball World Cup confirmed 64 national delegations for its Da Nang, Vietnam edition, running into September, with Vietnam's own host-nation medal count already surging past its rivals by the time the tournament opened. Wyndham Danang Golden Bay joined as Gold Sponsor and the Global Pickleball Federation locked in its partnership with the event during August.

Vietnam carried a second major story of its own: D-Joy Pickleball Tour Leg 3, the Petrolimex Saigon Cup, confirmed a VND 3 billion prize pool for its 9-13 September dates, with Petrolimex Saigon signing on as title sponsor and former pro Jack Munro returning undefeated to the tour.

Further afield, the Hong Kong Slam announced a US$1.1 million prize pool for its 19-25 October dates, one of the largest purses anywhere on the Asian calendar this year, and Major League Pickleball ran a full August slate in the US, from Orlando's regular-season wrap to Newport Beach's playoff bracket to the NYC Finals semifinal matchups.

These figures are reported in their own original currencies rather than folded into one converted total. A Malaysian club tournament's RM1,250 pool, Vietnam's VND 3 billion Saigon Cup, and Hong Kong's US$1.1 million major are not meaningfully comparable as one blended number, and combining them would flatten real differences in scale and market rather than clarify them.

What's Already Confirmed for September

The calendar doesn't stop at August 31. D-Joy Tour Leg 3 runs 9-13 September in Saigon. The Squad Cup 2026, marking its host club's first anniversary, carries a RM46,000 team prize pool on 26-27 September. Reserve Pickleball Rally 2026 is set for 5 September with a RM22,000+ pool. And the Heineken Pickleball World Cup's own finals stretch into the first week of September.
