Sophia Tran Joins Team Luzz's Penang Community Event
Andrew LeeFive players from one brand's roster, on one court, in one afternoon. That's what Luzz Pickleball put together in Penang on 25 August, and Sophia Tran Phuong Anh's own recap, "Penang is Luzzing," was the fan-facing half of a weekend that also included a separate, paid performance clinic at the same venue.
Tran played alongside Roscoe Bellamy, Syed Uzair, Sabrina Gee and Irfan Kamil at Pickle By The Sea, with the group running an exhibition-style match in front of a real crowd before moving into a fan autograph and photo session that drew young supporters lining up to meet the players.
A Roster, Not a One-Off Booking
Putting a World No. 6 men's singles pro, a Malaysian rising talent, and two more sponsored regional players on the same court in one weekend isn't a coincidence. It's the same roster-building pattern that showed up again the following week, when Malaysian coach Kid Chan was named a Luzz global ambassador and pointed to Bellamy and Syed Uzair as fellow Luzz players in his own announcement. Sabrina Gee, one of the five on court in Penang, is herself a Luzz Pickleball ambassador. Between a world-ranked pro, a Malaysian community figure with a large local following, and a growing list of regional players, Luzz is building visibility at several levels of the sport at once, not just signing one big name and calling it done.
The event carried real brand detail beyond the roster, too. One player's jersey in the crowd photos showed VietJet Air branding, a nod to Tran's own airline sponsorship in Vietnam, and the venue itself, already billed as Northern Malaysia's largest pickleball venue, gave the whole gathering a stage big enough for a genuine crowd rather than a quiet in-store appearance.
The Other Half of the Weekend
The same weekend also included the Roscoe Bellamy Performance Clinic, a separate, paid RM799 training session at the same court. Together, the two events split Luzz's Penang push cleanly in two: a ticketed clinic for players who wanted hands-on coaching, and a free, fan-facing gathering built around the roster itself.
